Partner Drills

1.  Front kick – back leg only

2.  Side kick – back leg only

3.  Step, punch (step back, outside block)

4.  Step, punch (step back, inside block)

5.  High/low punch

6.  Front kick, high low punch

7.  Step, middle punch (nagashi uke)

8.  Front kick, middle punch (nagashi uke on both)

9.  Step, high punch (kagite block)

10. Front kick, high punch (nagashi uke, kagite)

11. Kotekitae

KATA: Kihon 1 – 5, Naihanchi Shodan



White Belt, Yellow Tip (7th Kyu) (After passing test on the above, a yellow tip is awarded)
In addition to all of the previous, start on:

1. Front kick, side kick – opposite leg

2. Front kick, high roundhouse–opposite leg

3. Front kick, back kick – opposite leg

4. Front kick, step behind side kick – same leg

5. Front kick, step front middle roundhouse – same leg

6. Front kick, middle punch, kotekitae

7. Shuto Block

KATA: Pinan Sho-dan, Pinan Ni-dan
 

Yellow Belt (6th Kyu)  (After passing a test on the above, a yellow belt is awarded)

1. High/low punch same hand, high/low punch opposite hand, block high/low

2. Front kick, high/low punch same hand, high/low punch opposite hand, block high/low

3. Front kick, side kick, high (tate zuki)/low punch same hand, high/low punch opposite hand, block high/low

4. Front kick, back kick, high (ura zuki)/low punch same hand, high/low punch opposite hand, block high/low

5. low mawashigeri block.

Green Belt, Brown Tip (3rd Kyu) (after passing a test on the above, a brown tip is awarded)
In addition to all of the previous, start on:

KATA: Matsumura Passai (Passai Dai)

BUNKAI: Pinan Sho-dan Oiyo Bunkai

The student is expected to show signs of real ability to be able to protect one's self with karate before the next test.  The student must be able to do the prearranged attacks and defenses with some realism while maintaining a spirit of learning and cooperation.

Brown Belt (2nd Kyu) (after passing a test on the above,  a brown belt is awarded)

KATA: Kusanku Dai

BUNKAI:

Pinan Yon-dan Oiyo Bunkai
Naihanchi ni-dan bunkai

Brown Belt, Black Tip (1st Kyu) (after passing a test on the above, a black tip is awarded)

KATA: Chinto

BUNKAI:
- Itosu Passai (Passai Sho) Bunkai

Random attack/defense

Black Belt Shodan (beginner rank)(after passing a test on the above, a black belt is awarded)
In addition to all of the previous, start on:

  • KATA: Goju Shi Ho

  • Kumite 17, 18, and 19.

  • 20 (optional at the discretion of Sensei Hoffer)

NIDAN (2nd degree) (after passing a test on the above, a nidan is awarded

In addition to all of the previous, start on:

KATA Kyoru passai, T'sho

BUNKAI Kusankusho bunkai

SANDAN (3rd Degree) After passing a test on the above, a sandan is awarded)

In addition to all of the previous, start on:

KATA Jion
